Steering Gear Box Replacement

Any year will work but I would try to get a Delphi steering gear that they put in the early model JKs such as the one in your 08. They should say Delphi on the side or you could get a PSC.

I found a used one I was thinking of buying and then send my delphi one out for rebuild. My JK is my daily driver so I cant really have it down while I wait for a rebuild. The one i found is from a 4dr. Mine now seems like it has some dead space when I turn.

Hey Blacklock, I have a box from my 2013 JKUR pulled with less than 5K miles on it. Swapped out completely when I went hydro assist. Its in great shape and I'll let it go cheap if you're interested. I'll get you a PM. BTW...great avatar

Mine has a dead spot as well in center position. I was thinking about this myself. I don't think its worth going to a full hydro assist system, but just get a new steering box. whats the cost of them new?

I haven't had a reason to mess with it yet on my 2013, but I know the older (early 90's) GM boxes had adjustment built into them to account for wear.
On the top there was a small shaft sticking up with a hex key hole in it, and then a large nut on the shaft. If you held the shaft with a hex key, and then broke the nut loose, you could add a little pre-load onto the shaft (a very tiny amount, I think less than 1/4 of a turn) and then tighten the nut back up while holding the shaft, and it would take the excess play out of the box.
I don't know if this is the case with non-GM boxes, or with the newer boxes, but it might be something to look into.
