March 28 to 30 event promises scenic trails, fun with friends and plenty of mudslinging in Hammonton, New Jersey.

Springtime is just around the corner and you know what that means: mud! It’s also perfect weather to go trail riding in your Jeep. What better way to combine the two than at the 25th Pine Barrens Jeep Jamboree? The event happens March 28 to March 30, 2019, in Hammonton, New Jersey.

A variety of trails will be available during the 25th Pine Barrens Jeep Jamboree. Centered around Batsto Historic Village, many of the trails date back to the 17th century when they were used to transport bog ore to be made into cannon balls for the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Since then, many more trails have been established by the Forest Service.

The area encompasses one million acres of pine forests, cedar swamps, and streams. As organizers note, there is usually an abundance of water at Pine Barrens. “Expect to get your feet wet and your Jeep muddy in the many mud holes and water crossings,” they said in their brochure. Keep your eyes open, too, for the wide variety of native birds. You may spot some bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, pine warblers, and the barred owl.

The course offered during the 25th Pine Barrens Jeep Jamboree has a trail rating of three to five. This means that it will be a challenge for novice drivers. And if the weather gets stormy, that trail rating could be notched up one or two points. Catered meals for the anniversary weekend include dinner on Friday and Saturday at the Never There Gun Club in Hammonton.

On Thursday, March 28, registration and trail sign-ups take place starting at 5 pm at EconoLodge Hotel in Hammonton. On Friday, the fun kicks off with a mandatory attendance meeting at the Batsto Historic Site Entrance of the Wharton State Forest. Then you’re free to spend the day riding the trails!
