Anton Yelchin’s Family Filing Wrongful Death Suit Over Jeep Gear Shift

The parents of actor Anton Yelchin won’t be waiting for Fiat Chrysler to expedite the recall on those Jeeps that have been plagued by gear shifting issues.

Victor and Irina Yelchin have announced that they will be filing a lawsuit against FCA for the death of their son, according to a Los Angeles Daily News report. The 27-year-old Star Trek actor was tragically crushed to death by his unoccupied Grand Cherokee in his driveway back on June 19.

As covered here, the Jeep Grand Cherokee has actually been part of a larger volunteer recall over the vehicles’ gear shifters that can lead a driver to believe the car is in park when it actually might still be in another gear.

Following a government investigation, officials found that the gear shifters might be responsible for 266 crashes that resulted in the injury of 68 people as of last June.
