Hackers Take Another Stab at Jeep Cherokee

Yup, they’re at again.

The two Jeep hackers who sent Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) scrambling to update their internal network systems are expanding their study on tech vulnerabilities in automobiles, according to a recent Wired report.

In case you forgot, Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek made global news last year when they remotely took over a 2014 Jeep Cherokee on the highway. FCA has since made a number of updates to the system to safeguard its vehicles from some of the duo’s initial attacks. But to show what would’ve happened if FCA hadn’t made those updates, Miller and Valasek have taken their study one step further to prove that the vulnerabilities could get worse.

In the end, they were able to do everything from overriding the vehicles braking system to taking control of the steering wheel at any speed. It’s pretty frightening stuff.
