Grand Cherokee Trailhawk Returns, the Off-Road Hero Is Back

The Grand Cherokee Trailhawk was shelved with the rest of the 4xe lineup, but now Stellantis says it will be bringing it back this year.
While we all love fast Jeeps like the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, there is no denying that true Jeep heritage belongs off-road. That is what made the Grand Cherokee Trailhawk so popular. The 2025 version was equipped with Quadra-Drive II four-wheel drive with an electronic rear locker, an air suspension, adaptive dampers, a front antiroll bar disconnect and some other goodies to make it the off-road hero of the range. However, it was also offered exclusively with the 4xe hybrid powertrain. And as you know, Stellantis decided to drop all 4xe models from the lineup in 2026. So, that meant no Grand Cherokee Trailhawk for this year. However, according to a report by Road & Track, Stellantis will rectify the situation and the Trailhawk trim will officially be returning to the Grand Cherokee model range later this year.
This is not just speculation; this is straight from Jeep. “Today, we are excited to confirm that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk is coming later this year,” a Jeep spokesperson said in a statement provided to Road & Track last week. No more details were provided, but we still have a good idea as to what is coming.
Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

Just like the previous model, we expect the Trailhawk to return with a full suite of off-road components. At its core will likely be Jeep’s advanced Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system, featuring an electronic limited-slip differential to maximize traction in challenging conditions. Complementing this setup, the Trailhawk should once again utilize the Quadra-Lift air suspension, replacing traditional springs and enabling an impressive 10.8 inches of ground clearance for tackling rugged terrain. Riding on 18-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, the Trailhawk will be better equipped to handle obstacles, with improved approach, breakover, and departure angles compared to the standard Grand Cherokee. A comprehensive set of underbody skid plates is also expected, providing essential protection for vital components during serious trail adventures.
Engine

We don’t know exactly what will be under the hood of the new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk, but we know it won’t be a plug-in hybrid. We suspect that it will be offered with the 324-horsepower 2.0L Hurricane 4-cylinder turbo that comes on the higher trim levels.
Price and Availability

We don’t know when the new Grand Cherokee Trailhawk will be available or how much it will be. However, Stellantis said that it would be out later this year, so we are guessing that it will be a 2027 model. As for the price, the last Grand Cherokee Trailhawk that was offered only with the plug-in hybrid powertrain started at around $68,000. We would expect the 4-cylinder version to be priced well under that. But we will have to see. In any event, it is great to see the Jeep Grand Cherokee embracing the Jeep roots and once again offering an off-road focused variant.
