Jeep Grand Wagoneer Grille and Interior Teased, Debut Set for Sept. 3

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Grille

Jeep Grand Wagoneer appears to feature a luxuriously appointed 7-slot grille and a very fancy knob.

This morning, FCA introduced the latest round of Jeep Grand Wagoneer teaser images. This time, we get a look at the grille and what appears to be an interior knob. Some of speculated that it is a shift knob while others believe that it could be a knob to control the infotainment system. In either case, these two images reveal what is sure to be the most luxurious Jeep to date and it will be formally introduced on September 3, 2020.

Grand Wagoneer Grille Teaser

The newest pair of Jeep Grand Wagoneer teaser images were published in a press release that contains no text. The title of the press release is “Coming September 3…” and there are no other words in the statement. There are, however, two pictures; one showing the grille (above) and a second showing the mystery knob (below). In the grille teaser we can see “WAG” at the top of the picture, which is almost assuredly part of the word Wagoneer. We will discuss the knob picture in a second.

The Wagoneer font badging appears to be in a recessed groove in the hood. We can see that the recession in the hood begins just before the W, leaving no room for the word “Grand”. That suggests one of three things. The first possibility is that this is either a Wagoneer without the Grand, which we know is coming. The second possibility is that the Grand Wagoneer won’t have the word “Grand” on the hood. We don’t know what will differentiate the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, so perhaps they will both use this similar hood badging for both models. The third possibility is that the word “Grand” is in a separate indentation in the hood or that word is mounted above the Wagoneer badge in the hood. After the first Jeep teaser with “Grand grand” across a picture of the Grand Canyon, we believe that this is the Grand Wagoneer, so it may not have “Grand” on the hood.

Next, it could just be the way that the image is lit, but the Wagoneer font on the hood appears to be backlit. A few automakers, including Mercedes Benz, have introduced illuminated badging. Should Jeep go that route with the Grand Wagoneer, it would certainly add an element of premium luxury. Along the same lines, it almost looks as though as of the grille slots could have LED trim, but again, it could just be the way that the picture was taken.

In the long run, we can expect that the grille and hood badging of the upcoming Grand Wagoneer will be heavily trimmed in chrome, but it might light up, too. Based on what we can see here, this new SUV is likely to have a unique 7-slot grille, which has become a common styling aspect of the modern Jeep lineup.

The Mystery Knob

The second picture introduced today shows a knob and some interior trim of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. If you look in the blurry background, there appears to be quite a bit of distance between this knob and the background, leading us to believe that this is located on the center console, near the arm rest. This knob likely controls the infotainment system, which will probably be the first Jeep system with the new 12-inch UConnect screen. As one of the most premium infotainment systems in the North American market, it would make good sense for a big SUV to have a control knob located near the center arm rest.

Of course, this knob could handle gear selection, it could control the four-wheel-drive system or it could adjust drive modes, should the new Jeep include that feature.

Regardless of what the knob does, it appears to be beautifully detailed in brushed silver with more brushed silver trim around it on the gloss black console with a near-mirror finish. Just be looking at this knob teaser, it is clear that this is a premium luxury vehicle.

The Earlier Teasers

In case you missed them, here are the earlier teasers for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer Teaser

The first was an image of the Grand Canyon with the dictionary definition for the word grand. At that point, we weren’t sure if they were teasing the 3-row Grand Cherokee, the next generation Grand Cherokee or the Grand Wagoneer.

The second batch of teasers and the first to actually show the vehicle offered us a look at the body badging and the engine start button. Thanks to the body badging teaser, we knew at that point that we were dealing with the new Wagoneer lineup. When combined with the Grand Canyon image, we believe that this is the Grand Wagoneer being teased, but since we don’t know what will make the Wagoneer differ from the Grand Wagoneer, we could technically be seeing teaser images that apply to both models.

Again, we know now that this Jeep Wagoneer – Grand or not – will debut on September 3.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
