7 Interesting Facts About the Jeep J-Series

The J300 and Gladiator pickups are cool, rare Jeeps.

Rare Jeep pickup has an interesting past that makes owning one a prize collection regardless of the condition.

Rarity doesn’t always come in the form of spruced-up, well-kept classics.

However, it certainly doesn’t negate the beauty of something as priceless as the Jeep J-300 Gladiator. The one pictured here is a 1963 model we stumbled on in a Four-Wheeler report.

According to the truck source, this particular J-Series was owned by a logger and was the 104th J-330 of just 233 of the Kaiser trucks built by 1963. That speaks volumes of how special it is despite all the bruises it appears to have endured from years of work. Yet, what we find even more interesting about the Four-Wheeler story is some of the facts on the Jeep that have been dug up for the piece.

In addition to the rarity of the Jeeps, here are seven other major takeaways from the Four-Wheeler post.

The J300 and Gladiator pickups are cool, rare Jeeps.

1) The legendary J-Series trucks were offered in either two- wheel drive or a four-wheel drive. The two main lines included the J-200 that has a 120-inch wheelbase and the J-300 series that has a 126-inch wheel base.

2) The gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) for the Jeep pickups range included 4,000, 5,600, 6,600, and 8,600-pound models for the J-230 and J-330 that came as duallys.

3) Only a platform bed was offered on the factory J-Series dually.

4) Some of the first creature comfort features offered in a Jeep pickup like the Custom Cab option and air-conditioning debuted on the J-Series.

5) The lower GVWR models started with standard three-speeds with T-98 four-speed manual or an automatic being optional.

6) The only engine option for the J-Series was a 140-horsepower, 230 cubic-inch inline-six with overhead cams.

7) Jeep offered the J-Series Dually with an optional independent-rear suspension. Due to the price of the option, though, very few people ordered the independent-rear suspension system.
