Jeep JK Wrangler: Appropriate for All Ages? – What’s Up in the Forums
Is the JK strictly a young person’s car, or is it appropriate for more mature folks, too?
It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that certain “outsiders” often think of Jeep Wranglers as vehicles for younger folks. Those of us in the hobby, of course, know better. In fact, we feel like Wranglers are appropriate for any and all age groups, not just pimply-faced high schoolers. Nevertheless, it was interesting to read through the many opinions of various JK Forum members in this thread, originally posted by 4X4JK.
“Well my wife thinks JKs are for kids in their teens and twenties and are just toys! So I ask you – can a JK be comfortable enough to be a daily driver? Do JKs appeal to all ages? How old are you and which JK do you drive?”
Unsurprisingly, Area-51 notes that most folks in our forums aren’t even close to being that young.
“I suspect you will find more 30-50+ people on here than you will teens to 20s folks with JKs. As far as my age, let’s just say it’s 40+.”
Many of our members, including RevyJKU08, also use their Jeep not only for daily driving, but kid hauling as well.
“I’m in my mid-30s. Our JK is my wife’s DD and we love the Unlimited for our two kids. I use it on the weekends to go exploring. Funnest vehicle I have ever owned!”
Of course, it isn’t just the older folks who drive Jeep JKs, of course. Gren4deJK certainly fits within the OP’s wife’s stereotype.
“I’m 22, so I guess I fit into your wife’s stereotype. This JK is my 4th Jeep – I had a YJ and 3 TJs. I learned how to drive in a Jeep and I don’t see myself changing anytime soon. My Dad has a JK too, and he’s 56.”
But that’s the way many of us, including John_B, got our start – at a young age!
“It’s for both! I had a CJ-7 when I was in my 20s. Now, I have a 2009 Sahara in my mid 40s. I will say that my 2009 Sahara is much more comfortable than my CJ-7 was.”
So far, this thread has hundreds of pages and thousands of responses that span back nearly a decade. But we want to know what you think. Is a Jeep JK a great vehicle no matter what your age? Or do you think that it’s better suited for the younger or older set? Head over here and let us know!
