Jeep Wrangler Gets Serious Power Upgrade with Killer Turbo: What’s up in the Forums

Turbo Jeep JK

Thinking about boosting your Jeep? This thread is chock full of great advice and motivation to get it done.

These days, those looking to add serious power to their rides don’t have to look far. Forced induction has become the power adder of choice, rendering the old days of tearing your engine apart obsolete. New supercharger and turbo technology means we can add on hundreds of additional ponies without making any major modifications. Thus, we were very interested to see how JK Forum member Turbo306‘s turbo install was going to turn out when he shared it with us here in the forums.

“After going through all the crazy amounts of info on different forced induction options for the JK, I decided to pull the trigger on the Stage 2 Prodigy kit. This thread will kinda be a progression. I received my kit about one week after I purchased it. Came in two large boxes. One housed the turbo and the other housed every nut and bolt. I unboxed everything and snapped a picture. The turbo is seriously slick looking and the welds on the kit are top notch!”

Needless to say, the OP’s fellow members were pretty excited to follow along with this Jeep build. And so were we. Thankfully, we didn’t have to wait long before the installation began. But as with any kit this extensive, the process wasn’t exactly easy.

“Be ready for an install. This is not a simple bolt on. But I have to say (now that I’ve been driving it for a few weeks) that the end result is worth it.”

But the OP did provide anyone looking to install this particular turbo kit on their Jeep with some sound advice.

“Few key pointers that will make this process go a little smoother. If you don’t have a lift you HAVE to have the suspension fully unloaded. We fought with the kit for a dang hour before we realized this. Next, they say to start all the flanges…this is MUCH easier said than done. I would recommend starting at the wastegate. Get the V-band flanges on, then move onto tightening up the turbo. Then the down pipe, then the ball joints and collectors, etc. I can promise you that it will seem like it does not fit, but eventually it does.”

The OP does note that the quality of the kit is top notch, however. And the end results sure sound worth it.

“I am on 35s with 3.73s. The bottom end is very sluggish. The best way to describe driving a turbo Jeep is there is a light switch at 3,000 rpm. It comes on and you are now driving a performance car. It’s weird and will surprise the crap out of anyone riding in it. The wastegate and BOV sounds are awesome! I am going to re-gear just to keep from jumping into overdrive and spooling up the turbo every time I need to pass someone.”

And then, he even blesses us with a dyno video.

If that isn’t enough to make you want to turbo your Jeep, well, we don’t know what it’ll take. Be sure and check out this awesome build process in its entirety by heading over here.
