500-Horsepower JK “Rattletrap” Selling for Supercar Price

Martin Barkey Racing’s “Rattletrap” JK Being Sold for $225,000. And It May Just Be Worth Every Penny

There’s no limit to how far a company will go to outdo the competition. But just when you think you’ve seen it all, another insane custom spin on the JK surfaces.

Then again, customization is one of the big appeals of the nameplate, right? That certainly would explain some of the madness that drove the creation of this latest beast, which we stumbled upon in a Highsnobiety report. Of course, you also need some kind of intimidating name to identify the project. So this one’s known as the Wrangler Rattletrap.

Rattletrap

Chances are this isn’t the first time you’ve seen the custom Jeep. Martin Barkey Racing, the team responsible for creating this monster, actually built the Rattletrap back in 2007. But now it’s being listed for sale.

Not to be outdone by its looks, the Jeep also comes with some pretty hefty hardware. Under the hood is a 5.9-liter 12-valve, twin-turbo Cummins engine. It packs 500-plus horsepower with 1000-plus lb-ft of torque.

Trail — and practically any other terrain one might encounter —  traction is significantly enhanced by the Rattletrap’s 44×19.5 Pit Bull Rocker tires. The clip above (that includes what appears to be a project model of the Rattletrap) provides a brief look at what the monstrous Jeep is capable of pulling off. And given the fact that it was created by a racing team, we imagine that it can be pretty menacing on the open road, as well.

However, with a price tag of $225,000, the Rattletrap is right up there in exotic supercar territory, minus all the impressive capabilities, of course.
