Why Isn’t There an Official Jeep Museum?

Military Jeeps at OMIX-ADA Museum

Jalopnik’s David Tracy says the world is in dire need of a proper place devoted to preserving the nameplate’s history, and JK-Forum agrees 100 percent.

Do you know how we know that Jalopnik’s David Tracy is an authentic Jeep fan and not some opportunist who thinks they’ve found some clever hook for exposure?

Nope, it’s not because he spends a lot of time restoring old Jeeps that most people would throw away. And while we certainly find his routine road trips to Moab interesting, they don’t really give you a true depth of David’s passion for Jeeps.

How do we know? Well, here’s a guy who probably has countless aftermarket companies dying to get him to behind the wheel of some custom Jeep they’ve modified. But instead he devotes most of his time on paying tribute to the heritage of the nameplate.

Now, don’t get us wrong, we certainly respect those who test drive new Jeeps and love test driving them as well. In fact, if you’re an aftermarket company that thinks you have a Jeep that JK Forum absolutely needs to experience, we’d be more than happy to take you up on the offer. But it doesn’t negate the fact that a true die-hard Jeep lover should have a special appreciation for the history of the nameplate.

Yep, that’s why we’re so certain that David Tracy is a true, authentic Jeep fan. Take, for instance, the fact that amid all the talk about the new Hellcat Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, David has decided to focus on the far that the world really needs a proper Jeep museum, as detailed in a recent Jalopnik report.

We bet most people probably assumed that there already was a Jeep museum up and running. After all, given the legacy of Jeep, it seems natural that there’s would be some kind of official facility devoted to preserving its legacy.

As David points out in his piece, there are a few great places that feature collectible Jeeps like Omix-ADA Jeep parts supplier in Atlanta. But it’s not a true museum.

“It doesn’t really include a whole ton of historical information and memorabilia to do the ol’ Jeep justice,” says David. “Plus, let’s be honest: the proper location for a Jeep museum is Toledo, Ohio.”

We couldn’t agree with David more, which is another reason we know he’s a die-hard Jeep fan. You see, we all tend to think alike.
