How-To Tuesday: Transmission Cooler

My guess is that there wouldn’t be a particular product on the market if there wasn’t a demand for it. That also means that there are a lot of you out there that are working your Jeeps so hard that you need said product. Well, I have to admit that before I read this week’s How-To Tuesday article, I wasn’t aware of the need for transmission coolers. Hopefully I won’t be the only one learning something new this week.

Those of you that are simply driving your Jeep around town probably are not running into an issue where you may have a need for a transmission cooler. Although I’m sure we’ve all been stuck in traffic from time to time, and began to wonder if that may not be the case. Generally speaking though, the automatic transmission will hold up just fine in most regular driving situations. Where you are likely going to see the need is in off-road, pulling, or towing situations.

We all know that the engine is cooled by the radiator, and it’s supposed to help cool the transmission fluid as well, but that’s not always the case. That’s where the transmission cooler can become quite handy. This week’s How-To article goes into great depth on how to properly install the transmission cooler. This is one of the more truly step-by-step break-downs of the process that you are going to find outside of the written instructions that a unit may come with. So if you have been noticing your transmission fluid temperature spiking, or you’re simply looking to head off a problem before it actually is a problem, you’re in luck.
