Anybody spent much time in the Cannon Air Force Base/Clovis area? Assignment preferences are coming up and Cannon is looking like a pretty strong possibility. Looking for any info at all.

 

I was stationed there from 98-2000 and 01-05 when it had F-16s. What do you want to know about it? Location itself sucks but you can go north and get into Colorado and some fun stuff there or a few hours south for a donkey show. As far as living, stay north of 21st street and you'll be that much further away from the dregs of society...the closer you live to 60/84 the shittier it is.

I agree it is a love/hate relationship. It could be the worst place to be stationed but I would go back in a heartbeat. We had such comeraderie that most bases will never know.

 

Thanks for the info, guys. Any kind of recreation less than an hour away? I guess it's 3+ hours to the mountains or any lake? I'll definitely have more questions if it ends up being my next assignment.

 

I was there from 2000-2007. we used to go crawling out west from the base on the plateau. Out near House, NM. You can go 2 miles in any direction and shoot firearms but most go to state line road(where appliances go to die).
