Yes, pretty much just like that but with a single hook. Maybe not quite as big, but they will hit that size. Do you know how to tie an egg loop knot? You can loop the line around the roe to old it on the hook longer.

Will be practicing the egg loop knot for sure... seen it mentioned several places now and taking diagram. Haha.

Picked up about 10 of those Vibrax in various colors and a couple 'spoons' that had egg sack like centers and switched them all over to single hook so I am legal.

No spin-n-glows at Bass pro (wtf?) - so I will pick some up at the bait shop up there.

I got a nice load of different baits to try so I am hoping to do well.

Yes that is odd that Bass Pro doesn't have Spin-n-glows. I bet even a bass would hit one.....lol

Well good luck to you. Remember, all that I've talked about is for Pacific salmon. You will be fishing for Atlantic salmon, so I can only hope that some of the same tactics work for both.........guess we'll see....

What were all the other guys catching them on last time...??? And the one salmon that you did catch, was it a silver or a king....???

Don't know if you saw this or not but here is a silver I caught on a Vibrax. It was chartreuse green w/ black and red on the spinner....

back from a successful trip... between the 5 of us over 3 days we bagged 16 salmon (all kings i believe). day 1 we got skunked fishing the salmon river at various spots. Water way too high and flowing (2000 cfs which is high for that river - was at 18000 cfs a few days back during all the rain). We moved to the smaller tributaries next 2 days and hit them hard...

I personally bagged 3 including one i plan to get a wall mount of... it was around 40" and 30lb if I had to guesstimate (no tape or scale handy before I put him on ice). biggest one we actually scaled was 34lb; we got a bunch in the 18-25lb range, and a few small guys that were only around 10 or whatever...

In addition to the 3 bagged, i had action on about 10 other ones that I couldn't land. some of them came off before i even had a chance to set the hook good. the others put up a good fight but tough landing them in the small tributaries. the smaller streams were tough to fish because there was a lot of downed logs and log jams and those fish are strong. they would bolt up or down the stream and get into the log jams, brush, etc. and the line would snap. they are smart buggers. I had about 3-4 that were on for quite some time (3-5 minute battles?) fighting with me good (big guys) before snapping the line as described above, unfortunately.

will get some pics up tomorrow, i'm exhuasted.

most of the stuff was caught by floating eggs down stream bouncing off the bottom; spinners didnt work too well in the little streams but i had a hit on one in river day 1.

A few pics as promised:

One of mine from last day, plan to get this mounted for my lake/outdoor themed family room, was 30lb. or so... it also had sabretooth like teeth.

Same fish streamside...

Day #2 haul - one of the 9 we caught is missing. The little guy caught it, about 30 some inches and 20lb he was getting mounted so its on ice...

Day #3 haul - 7 more...

A behemoth we got on day #2, not my catch, but I netted it. This one was 34lb and I was holding it bc if I didn't net it as quickly as I did that thing was probably goneeee. Plus I wanted to see how huge it looked compared to me, haha. This one was pretty beat up though so my buddy decided not to get a mount of it...

My uncle who took us up used to go up all the time with his brothers and my late grandfather and said my grandfather caught a 44lb. king before. I would like to wait to get a mount until I catch one that big, but hey, it may never happen so I will take what I got and hopefully some more like it next year!!

Plus I'm not sure my living area where I plan to hang it is big enough for an extra 10+ lb of fish.

Nice fish Steve, you missed an awesome day at Rausch Saturday but looks like you had a pretty good weekend. My dad used to fish that area, his biggest was 40+ lb, he has one about the size you got mounted on the wall of his trophy room.

Thanks man, I definitely missed Rausch but hooking onto those monsters (and even the smaller 20" or so ones) is almost as exciting as a complex obstacle at RC...

Taxidermist called today and officially the fish is 41.5", so it is a pretty nice one! I think it is actually longer than the 34lb. we got, but not as big in girth. I'd estimate girth at 24" round or so, which would make the fish about 31lb. roughly... and unofficially... a 25" girth would make it closer to 34lb. estimate, so its all just guestimating, haha.
