cb radios
now that 3 of my buddy's will have jeeps we were thinking of upgrading from our walkie talkies to some cb's but i haven't a clue about brands or even where you;d buy one and what all do we need? some one at work said radio shack sadly i cant think of were a radio shack is in the Bakersfield area and imo thats like saying go to harbor fright for a good band saw but i don't know
IMHO...Cobra, Motorola, and Midland are probably the most reliable in terms of quality. If you want a large selection, depending on what you want, I would search Ebay. Myself, I recently purchased a Cobra 75 wx st, and am happy with its performace. I bought it NEW on Ebay cheaper than retail.
I have a cobra 19Dx from 4wheel parts i paid 110 shipped to my house for everything coax cable cb and antenna u just need a bracket it mount the antenna i haven't tested it out with another cb because u have to tune it but i can hear alot of people talking so that's good
i like the cobra 75wx it works well & is considerate of what little space there is in the jeep (full size radios take up a lot of room & not all offer weather radios built in....an important feature when youre trailing).
i like the Cool Tech JK Gate mount - you can flip it around to get more antenna above the jeep (for increased range) or mounted it 180* so you fit in a garage w/ the antenna on.

So $110 for every thing is that the norm and cobra is a good brand is there any special things I should know be for picking it up one that might have a function one does not?
practically a whole CB in a hand mic. There is a small connection box it plugs into that also the antenna and power is connected to. this is compact, easy to use, and a great design.

theres a small "junction" box where the mic, power & antenna connect....its so small you could mount it just about anywhere (slightly smaller than 1/2 a pack of cigarettes).
i paid 85 bucks for the radio (frys electronics).
you can buy additional junction boxes (ive seen 'em for 35 bucks) and mount 'em in other cars/trucks etc...and then just use/take the mic from car to car to jeep etc.
IMO, spend the extra cash and get a full size radio. I was looking at the same kit you are and a number of people recommended a full size radio, I bit the bullet and bought one. I couldn't be happier with the setup. It is fully tunable. Take it to Jericho off Golden State and have them tune it after you get it installed.
I bought a Cobra 29 LX from Best Buy Online for $101, a 3' Firestik antenna with spring and quick-disconnect. I followed the write-up on Project-JK and it was a very easy install. The range of a full-size radio that has been tuned is far better than the Cobra 75.
