Default PCT Land Grab

The described PCT land grab looks to be completely out of line. Have a look at the info here:
Stewards of the Sequoia (PCT seeks to steal your lands)

This it?
Piute Mountain Road | Bakersfield California Off-Road Trails | Trails.com

I'm also a hiker and have hiked all of the PCT from Kennedy Meadows to HWY 120 in Yosemite, so this interested me. I couldn't remember any OHV trails in the stretch I've walked, so I searched to see where the proposal was. It's further South of where I've been, so I can't offer direct experience. I am a PCTA member and have been since 2004, only glanced through the last magazine though.

Found another one, they are trying to do this along the whole length of the trail (Mexico border to Canadian border).

The Nature Conservancy recently announced the acquisition and preservation of nearly 48,000 acres near the Pacific Crest Trail east of Seattle, Wash.

Many of the parcels sold by the Plum Creek Timber Co. along Interstate 90 in the Yakima River headwaters had been identified by PCTA as necessary for preserving and protecting the experience of people along the PCT in this area.

The land buys were included in a $134 million deal that will preserve recreational access and help conserve the ecological integrity of 165,073 acres – 257 square miles – of forests, rivers and wildlife habitat in the Cascade Mountain Range of Washington and in the Blackfoot River Valley in Montana. Plum Creek also sold 117,152 acres in Montana.

“Not only does this help to protect the PCT but it protects the expansive scenic views seen from the trail for miles,” said Bob Woods, PCTA regional representative.

“In this area, we’ve been acquiring about one or two parcels of land each year on average with the limited funding available through the federal Land & Water Conservation Fund. The recent Nature Conservancy acquisition jumps our progress ahead by four or more years.”
