2012 Planning First Family Trail Ride - Looking for Advice
Happy New Year Everyone!
We've been Jeep owners for 3 years now, and I've been making plans and have started the 'hording' of gear, supplies, and planning for new tires ect...
The root of my question is can these off-road events be really good family outings? I'm aware of Camp NL, Jeep Jamboure, and even some events states side (I'm in GTA)
Any advice on what would be a good event for a newbie with a stock JKU, and a driver (me) with other off-road driving experience.
With two kids in tow, a stock Jeep which is my DD, it needs to be fun for all.
Thanks eh!

YES! A jeep jamboree would be a great first outing! There are many people around whos primary concern is your safety. It is a great opportunity to meet like minded people, get some experience under the guidance of trail guides and find out how capable your Jeep is. They will talk with you and put you in a group based on your abilities and experience. There were tons of people with kids and pets and bone stock Jeeps of all types. And the fun part is you will get to talk to people newer than you all the way to a lifetime of experience. You can see what others have done to their Jeeps and talk with them and see it in action.
We had a rep from Hi-Lift jack in our group who got to show us how to break down a tire and reset the bead using a hi-lift! Its always great to see products in action, not just websites or catalogs. They had a winching demo and our trail guides were always giving advise and there to help with whatever.
My wife and I had a great time at the French Lick JJ and will be attending more this year. I recommend them to anyone at any level.

CampNL is a great place to start. It's very family oriented. Everyone I know that has a kid brings em. Ratemy4x4.com even puts on a children's tent with different activities for them everyday and a movie night on the Saturday. There are trails for everyone and the guides are always very helpful. I have been every year since I bought the Jeep and love it! Unfortunately it's later in the summer but depending on where you live I'm sure there is a Jeep Club near you. Most of which organize trail runs all summer long and all the clubs I know are very family friendly
message me if you would like to know anything else about CampNL or local clubs!
