I paid about $270, but they didn't just change the fluid, they pulled the axels and pumpkin, checked tolerances, and visually checked wear patterns on the gears and gave the axels a once over. Then the put it all back together and put in a fresh change of gear oil.

I made sure to watch what they were doing and made some notes, so I can do it myself next time. I've helped with stuff like that before, but it was a few years ago....and there's a big difference between helping and doing it yourself.

Interesting....checked tolerances; I'm curios how? and visually cheched wear patterns.....hmmm.

Did they really take the calipers off, discs off, the c clipsof the shafts and out they came.......if they did, then yes it's a good deal but I wonder why? It's not necessary for regualar maintenance.

The price for the labour is fair I guess.

That's just stuff dealers say to justify the price they're charging. They really aren't doing anything besides looking at it. We fix alot of rear ends at work, and the only thing you can see when you take off the cover are the gears. At your mileage, assuming they have always been full of oil and not water contaminated, they will be perfectly fine. You can't see the bearings without dissassembling the differential. You're absolutly right Big D. Oh and by the way, our axles don't have c-clips.
