My very first car was an 86 cougar. 1 time the pedal stuck to the floor. I put it in neutral and shut it off. Happened to me a few times. When i took it to ford, it turned out there was a glitch in the cruise control and it just tried to floor itself to get upto speed.

Maybe the same thing?

PS. My cruise wasnt on at the time.

Good thought, but probably not. The cruise control doesn't have a cable like your cougar did. THe JK has a drive by wire system and the throttle body is just held open by the computer when cruise control is requested. That''s why it comes on so smooth in the JK, no pedal tip in like older vehicles. Now that I've thought about this issue for quite a while, I'd hate to say but I'm thinking that just maybe the floor mat may have been the culprit. the pedal has no motor in it to make it move on it's own so something must have held it. The throttle body has the motor to open and close it. Still doesn't really explain the lightning bolt light, unless Todd is correct and it came on because of revving too high. Anyway just my theory, take it for what it's worth, but I'm still kind of anxiously waiting to read how this one ends and what they came up with.

That's cause in your car another cable pulls the throttle open when the cruise is on and because your pedal has a cable attached to it, that cable goes slack, that's why the pedal drops.

i run my revs up all the time and hold it, attempts at getting warm on cold days sittin in jeep

no issues light came on may be cause he was on brake while throttle was down
or his pedal was defective and the mechanism got stuck, hense the pedal replacement cough cough if they do.

I used to be a powertrain engineer at Ford. When they were developing the drive by wire throttle systems, they always had a big red button on the dash which was an engine kill. Sounds like maybe they should have put them on production cars?

Seriously though, you need to report this to Transport Canada, as it's the only way recalls get initiated.
