Issue with my mopar filter.
I had an issue with my mopar filter.
I received my first oil change from my dealer and guess what? Engine knocking on start up. I’m not sure if the drain valve is defective on the Mopar oil filter but I thought I would try and change my own oil with an aftermarket Fram full flow oil filter. I will post my findings tomorrow.
How do I know its oil related? For all you engine knockers out there try this after the vehicle has sat for 10 hours or more. Turn the ignition key until all gauge cluster lights are illuminated. Take note of your oil pressure light. When they all turn off start the vehicle and watch the gauge cluster. If the oil pressure light turns on while you hear the knock (2 sec or so) and turns off at the same time the engine knock disappears then you know its oil related (Oil filter empty). Hopefully its not an issue with the oil pump. I’ see what happens when I start the Jeep in the morning.
Does anyone know where to pick up a motorcraft oil filter for the JK in Canada?

motor craft is fords product line like mopar is to chrysler
so if your after the fl400 or what ever it is and u wanna take your jeep there and deal with them parts guys as he looks at u in awwwww
i would go with a fram 3600 instead of the 3614
at least then u can get it at wal-mart on the self.
never noticed what you are talkin about i will give what you say a whirl when i leave work tonight. that will be 8 hrs
cheers

second thought do you have an auto or stick
sometimes the clutch makes rattly noises sounds like engine noise push on clutch pedal and it goes away
if you have an auto ignore what i just said.

I've done alot of reading about this issue. Mopar does not make their own filters, most of them are made by Fram. Fram, is the worst oil filter you can put on you Jeep. Lots of info about Fram out there, all you have to do is Google it.
fram has issues cause they manufacture 1000 times more than any filter maker in the world
and what might not be a fram filter most likely came from one of there plants built to the customers specs
I have opened up several filters in my time, I can tell you that OEM filters are not up to par to shelf fram filters
I don't work for fram in any way
but ultimately there are number 1 when it comes to filtering they manufacture industrial filters for machinery as well as automotive and they produce off brand products as well such as ac delco, mopar, uap napa. built to their specs. if you are changing your oil as recommended any filter brand will do.
but when you start running non oem turbo and superchargers and close built high performance engine then you may need a little more from your filter more than an on the shelf filter will offer.
even if your filter failed and when into bypass mode as long as your oil is clean and you do your oil changes as recommended your engine will be fine.. but if your engine isn't in idea condition and oil changes have lapse and oil flushes have not been performed then you could cause damage.
I do not depend on the oil filter keeping my engine clean.
I perform regular oil changes as schedualed by my dealer
I perform regular oil flushes dealer use dino oil after a tank of gas 500kms i change out their oil and filter and put a quality fram filter on and add synthetic oil
I perform regular crank case flushes 4x a year with sea foam this is ussually done during the dealer dino oil and synthetic switch
I keep my engine sealed no oil leaks out and no dirt in (this failed once when the dealer didn't put the cap on a week of oil changes (5 of them ) followed
I maintain my air filter
and i regularly check oil level
If i have doubts about my oil filter at all I spin it off and put a new one on.
I also you the top of the line fram filter
A mopar filter is never on my jeep more than a month
or 750kms as well mopar cough esso cough oil is never in my jeep that long as well.
oil filters are like potato chips everyone has there favorite brand and preference why,
fact is keep your crank case clean and take care of your engine and perform regular service you will not need to solely rely on the filter to clean your engine, cause if your engine is dirty then the problem is already there. and such and such brand isn't going to clean your engine it will just filter the oil.
think of an oil filter as a coffee filter it prevents partials from going through to a certain size you still get coffee mixed in with the water that when though the grounds and if you filtered it again with another coffee filter you will get residues but add vinigar to the start of the filtering is it coffee or is it vinigar flavoured coffee, same applies to a car engine gasoline gets by the rings and into the clean oil as it does this the pH levels change due to ethanol mixed in with gas as well as many other nice chemicals benzine these are the acidic fluids held in suspension in the oil that are never filtered out drained away? maybe but residue remains as well as moisture gets into the crank case from the compression explosion process and condensation, short trips water in oil not good filter doesn't clean it.
if you change your oil and flush it and regularly then you will have as clean of an engine that you can possibly get inside. Alwill out relying on the filter
an engine is truely dirty when it is sold and first run upto 5000kms
did you notice how the JK came with a black mopar filter when it was brand new,
this is a top of the line fram filter also the oil that came in your jeep directly from factory also it had synthetic oil in it.
so to sum up clean sealed engine = safe engine that does not rely on filter
yes filters fail spring inside fails or the anti drain silicon valve fails these are usually production errors and when millions and millions of them are produced then yes there are failed parts.
which reminds me
when i was a teen i used to drive day and night day time for job night time to hang with friends and cruise i easily did 100,000kms one year. I also had more tickets then as well cause I was exposed to police more due to driving more including driving during late hrs where the ratio of car to police car was low.
so the analogy is fram is a super mass producer of filters under their name and others there for they have the most exposure in the market there by making them as big of a target as Britney!
Wow i had more time on my hands today lol ok time to go mow grass.

Here are my findings!

I'm going with Wix oil filters now. The Mopar filter is too unreliable.
