Default things found while off roading..in canada thread

Ok so yesterday I head to Northumberland county forest north of Cobourg.
I find this area which is mostly snow mobile and unmaintained winter roads fun to drive around and it is only 40 minutes from my place it is mild and usually safe and quiet during week days.
It leads to an area that is under power lines where atv and moto-bikes have there own little set up with lots of whoppdeedoos and moogles, (it is actually fun to drive on when u find the right speed in the jeep. )
Any how I follow this one trail that leads up a hill that overlooks the valley and on the way up I see to the right of the trail a burned out shell of a vehicle, (first glance it looked like a mini van)
I'm like well no rush it will be there when I come back down after going up to take a look at the top of the hill.
So on the way back down i stop inspect the area leading to it and it is fresh has not been reported to police as far as I could tell as there was no signs of anyone else looking at it.

So I try to figure out what type of vehicle it was, I mean this thing was torched just the metal shell left, it appeared to be a 90's Nissan pathfinder from what I could tell with the body style I look for a VINumber nothing to be found in the dash area as there was no longer a dash and the VIN tag could have been made out of aluminum with which case it burned up, I looked for license plates just the rear to be found and ya it was burned up and melted with only T1? ??? visible...ya and no bones inside.
So it was obviously a theft that was ditched (if u were going to drive a beater and then dump it as a method of disposal then u would likely not leave ur plates behind)

Well at this point I head back to the jeep and start playing with my GPS to get all the info: lat long and street address even though the road was 1/2 mile away and where a cruiser will not be able to get to. I then follow my GPS to the nearest road and get the name of that info when I find a grader and I talk to the operator to get more info of the location.

So I then move to an area where I will get good cell reception being in a valley
I then called 911 (free on cell and who knows what the 1 800 for OPP smith falls eastern region HQ non emergency # is? i don't plus I wasn't sure if it was OPP or cobourg regional police) So I called and gave them all the info as well as my info and they said they would send an officer, I was even surprised when they took the lat and long co-ordinates and the dispatcher said " I got it on the map". was told the would send someone out shortly ...did I mention that a narrow 4x4 will be required..lol

Anyhow I waited for a bit but I figured how much of a priority is this they have the exact location they can come at will. so I continue on wheeling then when I was headed down this one right away I come head to head with a cruiser backing up as fast as I am going forward 40k/h pull up beside him told him who I was and he asked if i could tell him where it was. (u would think with gps tracking on the police cars that they would have GPS on there mighty little laptops but no. so I gave him a rough idea where and he asked if he would be able to follow me in, I said you might wanna come along for a ride. I took him to the location he is impressed with the performance of the jeep as it climbs a 40* slope to the location he hops out takes a look, records info and then said I think a tow truck won't be able to get here to recover it I guess it will have to stay.

And no i didn't offer to recover it! first cause it isn't worth anything to me and second whats in it for me if I do. Other than risk.

So I drove the officer back to his cruiser and chatted for a bit. And yes officers have discretion when it come to tint and mirrors. It depends on how "enthusiastic" to officer is.

So that is my exciting day of lost and find.
Tell us about ur exciting off road days (other than trail stuff)
and stories of ur finds?
