Default Where are the Canadians?

Hey, where are the Canadians? There's no post in this section!!! Come on, say something! And don't tell me that you're gonna watch the Debate tonight...

Well, here is my post:

I just received my new part yesterday: The Rancho RockGear differential glide plate. I will install it next Sunday.

My next purchase (in December) is a 4" lift kit

If you hit a big rock, the Jeep won't stop; the Jeep will "drag over" the rock. Therefore, you avoid damaging the differential and axle.

"Drag over": Not sure it's the good word in English, but I hope you understand...

Yes I understand that part. I am more concerned about sod and mud and what not getting scooped up.

I will try it at the Terrebonne's Trail, and I'll give you feedback later.

Well here's the funny part, that plate sems to hang about an inch lower than the differential, so you've lost an inch of clearance.

As far as protection to the axle, I can't be sure that would be the case. If you get hung up on the shovel looking thing and try to "drag it over" you'll be putting strain on the opposite axle that is trying to over compensate for the added pressure being built up by its partner being jammed on a solid surface. Therefore straining it.

In combination with this straining effect, the tires will either pressurize to attain a decent amount of grip under pressure, or the tires connected to the stuck axle will spin.

Tire spin in 4 LO is a disaster waiting to happen. The differentials (the inner gears not the outer case) are weaker than they should be.....when in 4 LO, your ESP and traction control are either in Part-Time or Off....meaning the wheels will spin in place until you stop them by getting off the gas, or when the tires catch something they can use.....now, knowing the general attitude around here of "When in doubt go all out" or "Hammer the gas when your jammed".....catching a high speed spinning tire that suddenly jumps into traction from overspin, will suddenly send a vibration the size of a hand grenade going off under the vehicle (no joke) and break your inner axle or differential gears, or both....hence the term "Grenaded Differential".

I understand that we go slow on trails, and that concept is regarded amongst this community, however, I have witnessed in physical form and in writing on here, that when someone gets stuck on an obstacle they gas it hard instead of backing off and finding a slightly different line.

Either way, I beleive you have good product here, as a good bump on a differential cover can break the seal holding the oil, however, be mindful if it gets caught on something, don't force your Jeep over what its caught on...back off, try a new line.

Oh, and as far as my vote is concerned, although my name be Dion (Greek, not french).....I certainly will not vote for anyone named Dion in the leaders group.

Yes, I agree with your theory. Also, I think that the experience of the driver is very important, more important than all the armor protections that you put on a Jeep. Thanks for your reply.
