Attn: Upstate NYers
Hey gang - need some advice, please.
Any suggestions for a good, off-the-beaten path camping adventure in upstate NY, mid-September? I'm not looking for any hardcore off-roading trails at this time - but I'd like to find a couple of potential campsites that are hard-to-reach for the average Joe Camper in his/her family sedan. I'll be in a mostly-stock JK Sahara, so I'd love to be able to escape the crowds and use the 4WD to find some peace and quiet. Good fishing would be a bonus. I'll have a couple of trail-dogs-in-training along for the ride, and maybe a couple of novice campers in the form of my two young nephews.
Thanks in advance,
KD

wow, no answers. I find this problem a lot here in NY. Most of the trails are either illegal, privately owned or you have to know someone or be apart of a club for anyone to tell you where they are. It really sucks. I usually head out to CT to wheel.
The Moose River and Limekiln areas are great for camping, State owned (I think) with gravel roads. Bear country too. Should be able to Google it...Also trails and camping in the Brookfield trail system...this has many truck trails, ponds, camping sites..Brookfield is off Rte 12, North of Norwich, NY
do a google search for 'dispersed camping ny' you can also look for any national forests or bureau of land managment websites in NY and then contact the ranger to check on your chosen location.
There are rules, usually no more than a few hundred feet off the forest service road etc.
