Ok, heading out to Casparis once again. I love this place. I dunno if its because the trails are nice, while not being so extreme that i'm afraid i won't get home, or the fact that most of the area is still new to me, and everytime i go, its like a new trail. Eitherway, i'm heading up there again on Aug. 11th.

This time, I am 97% positive i know where the old rail road bridge crossing is, and can find it this time around. I got to talk with some locals last time i was out that way and got some directions.

Btw, for those wondering what the heck i'm talking about on the rail road bridge crossing, here is a picture:



Since the place was a mine, there used to be trains running all around the mountain, but now, all but 2 of the lines are abandoned. This bridge is on one of the abandoned lines and apparently leads to another collection of trails. There is also a place to cross the river not far from the bridge.

Anyway, so, i'm heading up there on the 11th, and i've got a few people from my club coming along. Anyone on this site want to join in? Let me know and we can figur out where to meet.

Just bumping this up and giving meeting updates for those that want to randomly show up...

3 meeting spots

1) Maryland Welcome Center on I-70W (lat=39.5245998541, lon=-77.6012873477 for you with GPS) at 7:00am and leaving at 7:30am.

2) Sideling Hill Center (lat=39.71814726, lon=-78.2801870585 for GPS) on
I-68W around 8 and leave at 8:30.

3)Sheetz in Connellsville (1002 W Crawford Ave, Connellsville, PA 15425) around 10 to 10:30.


This will put us on at the trail head around 11 and at the mine around 12:30 for lunch.

Just and FYI guys, if you are interested, I'm taking a group of buddies up to Rausch Creek that weekend. You are welcome! Noting insane, I;ll be breaking in teh new lift and tires and hopefully the winch! But I'm taking some guys in stockers!

atomicmecha: I am seeing about making this, I might not be on vacation yet. I will let you know. These trips are a little hike for me from where I live.

Ok, i just talked to a guy that knows the area around Connellsville very well and he's given me detailed directions to get to the bridge. So now i'm 100% sure we'll hit the bridge on this outting.


Also, i know its still a little less then 2 weeks away but those that have shown interest, any word yet as to being able to come along? And is there anyone else coming? :sad:

atomicmecha - as it stands, I probably can't make it - family camping trip in the works as of now. If you end up moving to the 18th I am back to "possibly"...

I really want to go, but I just found out I need to go to Kansas for a few days and depending exactlly when that trip falls I may not be able to make it. I should know in the next day or two if I am in or out.
