So I got my regulator and all related components and today I ventured out during lunch to pick up a 10lbs aluminum beverage c02 tank. Went to the two largest places in Manassas Virginia and neither had any in stock. They had a metric butt ton of 20's and 5's, and a handful of 15lbs that were steel and didn't have the the beverage handle.

Since they don't have these in stock I won't be able to do a swap out for a full one when I finally do get the tank I want. They said the best they could do is take your empty tank and send it off to the fill station, and hopefully, if all goes well, you would get it back in a few weeks.

So, where are we getting our tanks for the original purchase, and were are we getting them filled that it can be done while you wait or relatively quickly.

 

I have been wanting to get a tank myself but am not sure on were to start. i looked at the power tank stuff but i am not paying $400 for a co2 tank!. So were did you get your regulator from? i just need a tank, valve, regulator, hose right?

 

I'm in the other boat. I have a tank, but no hardware. One of these days. I got my tank at a scrap yard.

 

Your best bet is to look for a Fire Extinguisher supply business or weld shop. I've been getting my CO2 tank filled at a company called Aidant which supplies businesses with fire equipment.

As far as CO2 tanks go, there are plenty of really nice ones online. For regulators, check out hydroponic web sites.

 

I ended up finding that Arcet in Manassas Park has a huge load of steel co2 tanks on hand, but are selling them at about $200 a pop! Needless to say, I ended up just going online and buying the cheapest steel 10lbs I could find.

Here is why I went ten pound steel:You can get a regulator online or at welding supply stores. I went with a website that seems to be affiliated with the now defunct Ultimate Air and they are selling off the surplus hoses and regulators and such at a decent enough price, and through in free shipping if you mention their advert on the facebooks.

I went with a single gauge adjustable regulator as I wanted to run air tools as well as fill tires. I wasn't sure if my tools would be happy with a constant 160psi. I got the single gauge regulator as most will say that the other gauge isn't needed. That second, unneeded gauge, measures the pressure in the tank and with the nature of co2, that tank will be at either 600psi or 0psi. There is no gradual drop in psi to measure how full your tank is, so the that gauge really isn't needed.

Really, as all the places had 5lbs tanks in stock, I may get a 5lbs as a spare. And I can tell you this, it will be really easy to find a place for that spare 5lbs.
