I have an Unlimited with an auto as well. Can you explain further about using 4lo and the torque converter?

That's awesome! I will try to avoid tow truck Joe at all cost. Hopefully there will be someone else out there running around the same time I am. That would make things much better.

I'll be there the first week in June.

I'm headed to Outer Banks Saturday or Sunday if anyone's interested in going. I'll be leaving from Newport News.

Does anyone know if I can get there by going through False Cape State Park? Can I enter there from the North and drop down to Carova Beach? Or do I have to drive all the way to the bridge by Kitty Hawk?

There is no access to NC beach from VA. You have to take the KH bridge, get on 12 and drive north past Duck to gain beach access.

Thanks for the info... That sucks. That adds a ton to the drive1 Unless of course I head way south, which depends on the passengers.

Agreed, There is talk of putting a bridge in further north to shorten the trip, but that's a long time coming.

And I'll ditto the water comments, I buried my 4Runner with 4" lift in what looked easy enough to cross, maybe a 15' wide water run across the trail. It just nosed down and right in and never came up. I had water covering my exhaust pipe. Eventually reversed out, but it was not a good scene. It was like being in a steep edged bowl.
This was taken just before going over the dunes.
