pine barrens or wharton july 24th
Met up with "C&E", JKPier (with daughters copiloting - made me wish I brought my kids as originally planned), and Boots mid morn @ Atsion.
Boots got a chuckle as he watched me miss the Atsion entrance and pull a U. Touched based with JKMax who couldn't make it due to work... but hooked us up with Unsub and BoneCollector (more later)..
Set out headed to JM on what started as super dry run with me in the lead and Boots tailgunning. For fun, hit a loop of sand, just to make sure the 4wd, and lockers were still working (haven't engaged them since winter!). Reached High Crossing, and finally found some water - got our feet wet, and took newbie pics (yeah, I'm a noob :P)....
Our approach to JM began uneventful, and mostly dry, but soon became a winch fest. Ahead in the distance, we spot a Nissan pathfinder, just hanging out solo in the woods... thinking, "Hmmm, that's odd..." - as I enter nose deep in the muck, and require a friendly tug out from JKPier. While I was being pulled out, Boots learns that the Nissan Pathfinder (stock) was a solo adventurer - hoping someone would come by (if we didn't happen along, I wonder how long he would have had to wait....) - as he too was stuck to the frame. I got to test out my shiny new Engo 10k on her maiden pull - and was shortly afterwards, best friends with a relieved Nissan Pathfinder
Turns out the Pathfinder was exploring, and saw a couple dirt bikes go right through the same puddle (probably right down the center!) - and thought he could follow... (wading through to hook up, I found the ruts to be deeper than my knee).
Not to be left out, JKPier on 33's, and Boots on 37's both joined the club... fortunately we had 3 winches among us - they all got a good workout. Boots, I'm glad your winch issue was minor!
With a new friend, we hit JM, and made our way up and down, and up and down, and...
Unsub and Bonecollector, with dogs, arrived (and gave me yet another bout of Jeep envy :P - and they were still recovering from night wheeling a few hours earlier!). Intros all around, and off we went for a guided tour of FR.
Unsub and Bone took us on some tight trails, that demonstrated why they repurposed their RR Light bar as a tree limb shield...
By 3pm, most folks had to take off. Unsub and Bone were kind enough to show me the rest of FR. Miles of whoopty bumps, giant mounds, erosion ditches, etc...
Ended the day ~8hrs later, with some JCrew stickers and a tee shirt
Overall a great day thx to everyone involved!
ps. On the GW back to NY, saw a guy in a sterile white Mercedes SL500 checking out my jeep,... I think he was jealous :P
