Rausch Creek July 19th and 20th
I took 0 pics, however, my step bro took a bunch, some memorable, some not so memorable. So as soon as he downloads and sends me the link I'll post.
Those that misssed today, it was quite an adventure! Sucks when someone breaks on first trail, but loads of fun figuring out how to get out on three wheels!
Bly, sorry it was brief, but hope Paul's xj lives to see another day (hopefully with a larger axle in the rear!)
Andy,
Show me the Coo...! thanks again for playing school bus! Had a great time, hope you made it back safe.

Hunter... nice meeting you in person at RC on Saturday afternoon. Looks like you guys had a blast, as did we. No major carnage from the weekend but did tear the drive shaft boot. So, I might band-aid it for a while until the funds open up for new drive shafts.
Glad to meet someone from the board in person.
Take care,
Bob

What is this, some kind of secret club you all belong to.......We want details..What happened?

My brother Paul snapped a rear axle shaft on his XJ Cherokee on the first trail we tried. It was one of the black hill climbs between Lower 3 and Upper 3. He tried it first and he made it about 2/3rds of the way up. He gave it a little too much throttle trying to make it over the last big obstacle. We heard a loud bang and then his passenger side wheel started walking out from under the Jeep. Tyler ran back to the office and rented their " broken axle roller bar" You put it against the tire and rachet strap it to the frame. It holds the wheel on so you can still drive. Suprisingly Paul was able to back off the hill under his own power and then drive back to the stanging area... in REVERSE
Whenever he tried to go forward the bar would catch a lug on his tire and bind. It took about 2 hours total. It was actually fun to learn some new recovery techniques on the fly. He's now looking for some bigger axles. He was running a stock D35 with an Aussie locker in it and.... 36 Swamper TSL's... the alxe worked fine when he only had the 31's under it
Tyler's brother took a ton of pics and Paul's buddy shot some video. If I can figure out how to post the video I will. You can really hear the bang when it goes.
What are you talking about

that sucks....
Yeah, but he knew it was on borrowed time. The tires are just too big for that axle, he knew he was going to have to beef it up sooner or later. It sucked it happened where it did, but it couldve been worse. The recovery was time consuming, but it went pretty smooth. And now we know how to handle a broken axle on a rocky hill climb
