Default bump?

Sorry for the really arcane and noob question... What does it mean when people post the word "bump"?

Thanks.

A bump basically is a means of making a thread progress. When you post something in a thread, it moves that thread to the top of the list and gets people's attention when they click on "New Posts". So "bumping" is a means of getting a thread noticed.

Bump= bump to the top. Meaning by commenting bump, the thread will now pop up in latest threads. Mostly used in for sale section and when people haven't gotten an answer they're looking for

Wouldn't really be a good thing any other way, would it?
