Nukem,

there is no need to install a locker when re-gearing. If you have 3.21's in there now, you will need a new carrier, not necessarily a locker. You can get a bigger open carrier and not have a locker and get your new gears. It's a good thing to put a locker in when re-gearing, so you don't have to get it all re-done if you decide you want a locker.

Hope this helps, shoot me a PM if you need anything!

If you put the locker in now there is almost no extra labor cost. If you want to do it later it will cost you a lot more.

To reiterate what the above two said, you do not have to have new carriers(open/locker/limited slip) just because you are regearing.... HOWEVER, as they are opening the axle already, you would actually save alot if you don't already have lockers in your axles, as the extra labor will be almost non-existant. However, with regards to 3.21 gearing, normally you would have to get a new carrier, except they do manufacture gears that are known as "thick cut" gears. These would allow you to keep your 3.21 carrier(once again, if thats what you currently have). I think the "thick cut" gears are a little more expensive, however, that is nothing compared to the cost of a new carrier.. Especially if your talking about a good locker!

Hope my 2 cents helps!

You shouldn't. I just went from 3.73 to 4.88. 4WP did my gear swap as well. I already had a rear LSD and plan on putting an Aussie in the front myself at some point. It's not difficult to do.
