Default Rough Country 2.5in Jeep Series II Suspension Lift and Death Wobble

I just want to put some information out there so others don't make the same mistakes I did. I have found some great info on here that helped me through this issue.

I bought the Budget Build 2.5in lift for my Jeep. I didn't get the lift with the shocks so everything was stock just added spacers. I did get the rear trackbar adjustment with it. It was so easy to install didn't run into any problems. I followed the instructions to the T. About a month later I got my first taste of Death Wobble. I thought I lost the front wheel. Didn't know about the Death Wobble at the time so I just thought it was something in the road. A week Later it happened twice on the road. I checked everything and everything was tight. On the forum I found out about Death Wobble. I took the Jeep to a Off Road shop by my house. He went straight for the Steering Stabilizer. It was factory so he said $50 and your good as new. I read the Steering stabilizers is just a mask but I took his word for it. 3 months go by and the Jeep had drove perfect. Then it happened again The Death Wobble. I figured the axle in front on the stock track bar was the cause. My axle stuck out 1/2 on right side. Bought the adjustable trackbar from Rough County. I made the adjustments and torqued it down to 125ft. I made it about 3 miles before the Death Wobble started up. My jeep was riding perfect on 33" tires without the lift. I checked everything from ball joints to tie rod ends you name it I checked for movement. It was tight as a drum. My wife drove the Jeep and it did it to her on a overpass on the hwy at about 60MPH. At this point I was told to blow the jeep up or your getting a divorce. I did the next best thing. I remove the lift and put everything back to normal. After doing this the jeep was normal again. No more Death Wobble. The only thing was I hated to look at my little Jeep with Big Wheels. Also my wife who is 5'3" that hated the lift at first told me to figure out how to get it back on there. So I looked everything over again what did I do wrong. I had to of mess up somewhere. Thanks to hours of searching and tons of Forums that I read I found my fix. So Here we go.

I found that Casters can cause the Death Wobble if not adjusted correctly. But with a 2.5in lift it might have moved 1 degree not enough to do all this. So I started down this path. I started to look at competitors lift kits and instructions. I came across TeraFlex Budget Lift YouTube video. Right off the bat I found something that was never mentioned in Rough Country's installed I even went back and checked. At no point did I loosen the upper and lower Control Arms. This would cause the bushing to bind up. Thus making my Casters off even more then the 1 degree. Also found that the Front Trackbar needs 2 - 9/16 x 3in grade 8 bolts instead of the 14mm bolts. I went to Lowes and paid 6$ for bolts, washers, locking washers and nuts. I went through the install process again. This time loosen the Control Arms. With the lift on and now on the ground I pushed the jeep side and then tightened everything back up to spec. The front end feels tighter then it did when I bought it. Smoother ride and NO DEATH WOBBLE!!!

So Yes -- I recommend the 2.5in spacer lift from Rough Country. No -- You don't need the adjustable trackbar, but it does get everything lined back up. Yes -- Change out the factory trackbar bolts with 9/16 bolts. It cost you more to eat at McDonalds then those 2 bolts. Yes -- Loosen the control arms.

Hope this help with your problem or If you're thinking about going bigger.

I was considering the spring and shock combo? Would that be better than the spacer?

Hey thanks for the warning. I am purchasing this kit today as a matter of fact. I am also adding AEV geometry correction brackets and grade 8 bolt kit. TF Monster track bar to come in later. Do you have any pics of you set up? I am also running 33's and would love to see how yours looks.
