Default Coming to 4 corners.

We are coming to the 4 corners area the first week of October. I want to show my wife where I hunt in the San Juans and run some trails while there. This is a sight seeing trip with the Jeep, any suggestions what to see / do around Durango and Cortez?

It may be farther than your looking to go but I would definitely recommend a trip over Modeno Pass in Sand Dunes National Park. There are spectacular campsites along the trail. It's one of the coolest things I've done since I moved to Denver last Aug. Also if you are into Mexican food, I'd recommend a place called Tequilas in Cortez, Not positive about the name but it has something to do with tequila.

If you are just going to ride in the mountains to show your wife the country there are several areas you can go to. Silverton, Lake City, Creed, Ouray all within 2 hours of Durango. If you dont want to go that far take her up to lake Vallecito and go up middle mountain road to the top (gravel road). If you want to go on trails you have engineer pass, Alpine loop, Yankee boy basin, ophir. There is a lot of country to see around here. Just get here before the snow does.

Thanks for the replies. RWA612 we are spending time in and around Cortez ( seeing Indian ruins ) so Tequila's on the to do list. VallecitoRubi , we are going to Henderson Lake then on up to Lime Mesa. I want to do a lot of back road sight seeing. I will be doing some trails also. How about some of the 4 corners JK members meeting Sat. or Sun. October 4th or 5th and running a trail or two together?

If you're in Cortez you are less than 2 hrs from Moab. Worth the trip!
I agree with VallecitoRubi's suggestions. Beautiful country. You might miss the fall leaves, but still awesome.
