Denver area - Barbour Fork - Trail report
A group of us attempted to do Barbour Fork, just south of Idaho Springs on Sunday. Started out fun, 1-2 ft. of snow, narrow trail, hard to not slide down and hit the trees. After about a mile or so, it quickly becomes impassable. Deep drifts, and even if you try to pack a trail, eventually the deep snow will cause you to tilt to the drift side and slide into the trees. We had a TJ with D60's front/back, full lockers, and running 41's (yes, 41"!!), coil over and dual winch, and he got as stuck as the rest of us.
Just wanted to post so no one else wastes their time. The trail might be doable if all you want to do is set up lead lines to trees to side of your jeep and winch up all damned day. Not me.
Side note, Ute Creek Trail is closed 1.3 miles up.
