Last month we stayed in Telluride (also a great town). You can highway around to Ouray or you can take Dollar Road which is a nice easy trail.

Just take time to acclimate to the elevation, me and wife had a blast but also a headache for the first 3 days staying in silverton, if I remember right around 10,000 ft and we came from our town sitting at 2'300ft in Texas.
