Default info on Tuscon area

any information on the trails in the area would be great. we are looking at going south for our 25th anniversary... we have been meaning to go to the Tuscon area for a few years now and we just got a Jeep so now we are thinking this might be our year.. went to Sedona last year,, got rained out, only got one hike in, had a good time but went home early... this year we still might go home through Sedona..

we have been looking at some of the right ups on the Chiva Falls area..
we have a 2dr 2011 Rubicon, stock, do have some under body upgrades (Armor), not new to 4 wheel'in by any means but I am new to the Jeep Way ... so far so good...

thanks

I have done both chivo falls and the gap in my stock jk sahara and as long as you don't mind hitting the skidplates a couple times and floating however chivo falls is easier to find, navigate, and is a slightly shorter trail than the gap. I also know of Chimney Rock but I haven't been to it.

Default Tuscon Area Camping

My wife and I are planning a trip to Arizona. The plan is to setup a base camp, explore all the trails around the base camp for 3-4 days, move the base camp and repeat. We've been reading Charles Wells "Guide to Arizona Backroads and 4-Wheel Drive Trails". Looks like some great trails. Planning our trip for mid March. Any problem running these trails in mid March?

Also, as many of you are aware, there's bee a ton media coverage about the illegal activites in the area south of Tuscon. Would any of you have any reservations camping out in the desert with your wife, or significant other? Any places we should avoid? Any places you would recomend?

Thanks for your help.

Randy knows a lot of the trails south of Tucson where all the nonsense goes on. I would recommend not even going down that way unless you like Border Patrol helicopters and trucks frequently visiting you. I think you guys would enjoy doing Chiva and Chimney Rock area. There's some pretty serious stuff back towards and around Chimney that can get pretty nasty for a stock height JK. Charleau Gap is a good time with nice scenary. From Charleau Gap you can make it up to Mt. Lemmon and camp which is a trip I've always wanted to put together. I personally love heading out to Florence Junction which is east of Phoenix. The trails out there are amazing! I'll probably be back in town and hopefully have my rig ready by the time you guys come out. We'll all be more than happy to show you around.

Thanks for the information. Thanks for the offer. We'd love to be able to wheel with folks that have great local knowledge. Thanks.
