Question jackson hole/yellowstone may'09

Hey there! New to post but been around for a while.

The family is planning a trip to Yellowstone (staying in Jackson Hole, WY) over Memorial weekend. We'll be out from Thursday the 21st through Monday the 25th. Anyone have any trail suggestions in the area --- pics would be great.

We'll have the little bambinos and parents along so want to stay more scenic with some light trails along the way. We'll have plenty of time to do the parks and tourist attractions, but would like to play a little too. Any other suggestions on attractions and things to do would be great.

Looks like Stone's Mercantile folks are in the JK Forum and are willing to offer some help to the traveling crowds. Looking forward to seeing them.

Any advice or suggestions would be awesome and thanks a lot!!!!!!

Ben (fort collins, CO)

You bet! Come into our store (Stone's Mercantile, 50 West Broadway near the town square) and we will be happy to give you some sight seeing ideas. My husband, son and I will probably be there and we are all Jeepers. Be sure to watch the "Old West Days" parade Saturday morning. This is a very popular weekend in Jackson Hole, lots of visitors for Old West Days. We will look forward to chatting with you.

Thanks a bunch! Born and raised in CO and will be the first time out. We should be able to make a great trip report out of it. Parade will be great with the kiddos/parents. Looking forward to coming out.

Any pics of trails to see outside the parks? Mine shafts, ghost towns, trailheads????

CG, there is a trail, some portions paved, some not a bit like easy 4 wheeling but I don't think you'd ever need to put it into 4 unless there is some snow, at the lower end of Grand Tetons park. When heading south through the GT park the road is on the right and ends up near a dude ranch. You'll see some old farmland, Moose and the like.

Being as you only have a few days there I'd check out Jackson Hole for the weekend, Maybe drive over the Donners pass trail to Idaho, head north to the west entrance for Yellowstone leaving early in the morning which will take a few hours to see the northwest and maybe the north east portions of Yellowstone. Much of the park is 25mph or you will be stopped by lookee loos all the time. People just have to stop (for good reason) to see the Buffalo, Elk and the like. BTW, see if you can be the first person to spot a buffalo with wings.

If your parents are old enough have them get the Federal Pass to all the NP's and it will cost nothing to get in. The sourthern portion of the park is where most of the geyser activity is and you will also want to take your time there for pictures and short hikes.

If you really enjoy parks then you can pretty much figure all your time will be for cruising, hiking taking pictures and more of the same

Enjoy your time there.

Thanks CIJeep!!!

Still looking for any ideas or pics from the area. Anyone else have ideas or trails that I might be able to actually use the transfer case for???

Keep an eye out in early June for my trip report and maybe I can help out the next crew heading out that way.

thanks!
