Moab around 28th of February, 2014. Wondering about trail conditions?
It will be my first trip to Moab at the end of February, part of a road trip from Victoria to New Orleans.
I am curious about typical conditions. Snow / ice on trails, how many will be feasible?
I am currently living on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia. Most wheeling here deals with avoiding trees/stumps and climbing rock, but it is generally wet and mossy. I also lived on the prairies for 20 yrs so i am used to snow/ice, temps down to -40 F. However, i am nervous about how bad the snow/ice will be in Moab around this time. Moab seems amazing, but ascending/descending the faces would appear to be suicide with either snow or ice. If conditions are less than optimum what trails could typically be run. I have a fair amount of experience wheeling, but have no idea what to expect at Moab? There is a good chance I will be wheeling alone, unless I can meet and tag along with some others in Moab. So if need be, I can keep it mild. I am driving a 2012 JK8 with a 3in BDS lift, full armour on 35s.
Any tips or pointers would be appreciated.
