flash floods are a major threat out here. Youtube moab flash flood and see how fast they happenAs well as lightning. Plan to summit the passes early in the AM and try to stay off them from 12pm-3pm. Last year we did red cone and a storm popped up. We got to the top and there was so much static that it was like playing zuess god of lighning.
Just play it safe...and enjoy the area! we dont want to rescue you. That $$$$$ lol

Ejoying this thread. We're also planning a trip from OK to Moab in late June. Wish we could also include Ouray in the circuit, but can't this time.
The trails I'm targeting have nearly all been mentioned already, but I am also considering some of the trails east of Moab through the Manti-La Sal National Forest. There aren't many trails over there, and only a couple appear to be remotely challenging. However, since our only opportunity to go is summertime, the forest trails are reported to be significantly cooler, and the scenery is also awesome there.
The Canyonlands trails are also on my radar, but I know we'll have to hit them early in the day. May try to save the shorter runs close to Moab for evenings.
Any tips for camping?

Plus, I'd hate to try something and have a break down that far away. Chicken Corners was one we picked based on ease and the scenery.
I'd recommend against Chicken Corners for the reasons already stated, long and borring. Plus you're much farther away from town on CC.
Take a lot of water for Moab (should be pretty hot in July) and have fun on your trip, it looks to be a blast!

Hell's Revenge isn't bad if you take the bypasses and it still has some fun stuff to play on. Also HR is right outside of town and a very popular trail, if you did run into trouble chances are you wouldn't have to wait long for someone to come along.
