Montrose/Ouray July 12th through 15th
The family, dogs, and I are headed to Montrose/Ouray, CO Sunday, July 12th through the morning of the 15th. We were wanting to do Black Bear Pass but it doesn't look like it'll be open by then. Since we have young(er) kids, their attention span isn't that long and they get weary after riding for 90 minutes or so offroad so most of the true trails will be ones that have a lake or stream to fish in. Bullion King Lake Trail and Corkscrew Gulch up to Hurricane Pass and Lake Como look promising as do the Alta Lakes trail. Anyone is welcome! Send a PM and I'll send out our cell numbers. We'll be staying at the Jellystone in Montrose while we're there. Heading down to Four Corners then up to Moab on the 15th if anyone wants to join us there!
We will be in the area then too! Planning on getting to Ouray on the 14th. From what I've been reading online, they're hoping to have Black Bear open by the 15th of July. It is definitely my favorite trail out there. If you see a tank green JKU Rubicon with an Alaska plate, be sure to stop me and say hi!

Unless they have a bulldozer hit BBP, I'll be surprised if it's open based on the pics the other day on Bush Ducks. Still looked like 8'-10' of snow covering at least a few hundred yards of the shelf road. It's a shame because that one trail is on the family's bucket list. We're staying in Montrose at the Jellystone campground but will be down in Ouray and the area wheeling. Our Jeep is a red JKU. Just mounted a hi lift to the front and it's got a bra (or as the wife calls it, a thong) on the hood. Hope to have the soft top on before we leave but could still have the hard top on there. Here's a pic of the front. Attachment 617301
I shall eat my words! And they taste good! San Miguel County just posted on their Facebook page that crews are (on bulldozers) working on opening BBP today. They are hoping to have it open either late today (Thursday) or Friday. On a side note, Ophir Pass was closed yesterday due to a rockslide. Crews are apparently working on reopening that as well. The link below is to the county's high pass status page. Imogene and Last Dollar are open now.
