New Mexico JKs; Monitcello Canyon Run, Saturday April 24th
Monitcello Canyon Run, Saturday April 24th
This will be a new trail for most of us that have been talking about doing Monticello Canyon.
Saturday, April 24th.
We need ro leave EARLY and we will get back late, it is a lot of highway.
We need at least one rig with a winch.
We have been looking forward to this run for a long time so lets do it!
Who is in?

Lets meet at the North end of the Pit parking lot (Ave Cesar Chavez and University) at 6:00 am Saturday April 24th.
We should plan on 3 hours to get to TorC. There may be three more Jeeps meeting us there at 9:00 am.
We can top off fuel at the gas station by McDonald's at the North end of TorC then go back up to the Monticello exit.
Its a few miles out of the way but they will pretty much have everything we will need, and this is where we will meet the other Jeeps joining us.
We should plan on about an 8:00 pm return to Albuquerque.

That sounds great! It's always good to meet a new Jeeper.
You can meet us in TorC and we will go from there...
We will make a time schedule for the meeting later on. We have plenty of time till April 24th. I think my wife and I may go Friday and spend the evening to be there ready to go Saturday morning. We'll see. I'll let you know.

I was going to do some homework about the trail. Your posted link doesn't work on my pc. Do you know is the an issue with the link or does my pc just not like it? Are you familiar with Monticello Canyon? Is it a difficult trail (for a rookie)? Hard on the Jeep? Going to TorC and spending Friday night and meeting you there sounds like an idea.

I have never been to Monticello Canyon.
I am told that for the most part it is a two wheel drive dirt road. The challange is in the water crossings that are anywhere from a few inches deep to possible holes that have in some cased required a winch. My JK is a stock Rubicon and we will have a few TJs with us and we all have tow straps and there will be at least one winch incase we do have any issues with the water.
The infor I read also says there are a lot of gates that we have to open and close behind. But it does sound like a fun trail and something different.
Tis always good to go somewhere new.
here is another link;

If that does not work just try typing in the web site;
www.webejeepin.com
And then go to the trails link and New Mexico link.
Looking forward to the run.

Just wanted to touch base again to make sure everything was still a go for April 24th. My wife and I (and probably the kids) will go and spend Friday night in TorC as well. Do you know how many are going?

It looks like we may have about 12 to 14 Jeeps on this run.
I decided do the convoy with the group Saturday morning instead of going early Friday and stay the night there. Since I started this run I figured I should lead the big group from Albuquerque.
We are meeting at the Pit at 6:00 sharp then off to TorC.
We are aiming to be at TorC by 9:00 am.
We will meet at the gas station by McDonald's at the North end of TorC at 9:00 am, then hit the trail to Monticello.
I posted on the NMoffroad.com forum that people should be prepaired for a full day out on the trail.
Bring extra water.
Bring food for your lunch on the trail.
Bring tools.
Bring a spare tire.
Bring cash.
We will be on CB channel 4.
My cell # is 505-306-2799 and my name is Gary.
And most importantly, be ready to have a Great day!
It is going to be good to meet a bunch of new Jeepers.
See you guys there.

One more thing that other people that have done this trail before recomend, wear shorts and some type of water shoe/sandal.
This trail has a lot of water crossings and may be 12 to 16 inches deep inplaces so we should be prepares to get wet.
Being in a wet soggy pair of jeans and shoes all day would be a drag.
