I have both, but usually run hard top in the winter. I have left the soft on late in to the season and early spring and the big issues I see are being able to scrape your windows (we get frost a lot) and the heavy snow on top. I think both are easy to overcome, but those are the only real issues. Its probably a little colder in there, but the heaters on these things are awesome. Not to mention I think it was last winter or the year before we had 65 degrees on x-mas, so you can drop the top year round.
Good Luck

I usually leave my heater on when I leave the jeep and use my auto start in the mornings when its cold. I tried an experiment this morning. I left my heater off to see how cold it is and didn't use my auto start. It was cold, but after a few minutes, the heater kicked ass!! Almost wanted to take off my sweater.

I am 98.9% sure I will be selling my hard top and going with the soft top all year. Might switch it up and go with a bikini top and duster in the spring/summer.

G520, Casper WY here and I'm in the same boat, have been looking at hardtops since I bought my JK earlier this year but after taking a look at the price I have decided to experiment this winter and see how it goes. So far up here we've had some pretty decently cold nights and a few cold days and of course the wind (I hate the wind)... and so far not too many issues. I go out and start it about 15 minutes before I leave and usually it's all warmed up and the rear softtop windows are ok. I have yet to try and clear the windows of frost and ice, but have brushed the snow off of em... We'll see how it goes and if I end up dropping $2500-3500 on a hardtop for next winter.

I've also spent some time considering how to insulate the softtop (similar to how people insulate their hardtops) but have not come up with any decent solution as of yet... Will keep ya posted.

Good luck my friend!

If you found a brand new hard top for 800 bucks would you buy it.?? Friend of mine has one and never used it. . Buying another Jeep and has no room to put the new hardtop I am in NC and really thinking about getting it. . All though I really don't need it since the winters aren't that bad but I don't know if I will ever come across a deal like this again. .

Default Soft Top Year Round

I only have the soft-top and have had no problems here in Durango Colorado. When we REALLY get dumped on, I go out and brush off the top. Drove through a howling snowstorm on Hwy 285 in January, and was very impressed. No leaks and stayed quite warm. Frost on the plastic windows just requires letting it heat up a bit inside. I agree with others, trying to scrape the plastic doesn't work.
