Default Summer trip to Durango

We're planning a family vacation this summer (early August) to the Durango/Telluride/Silverton area. We plan on spending a couple days going through the San Juans (Alpine Loop area) and the rest of the time relaxing and having fun.

Can anyone suggest a good resort, hotel or condo in either Durango or Telluride? We'd like a pool for the kids, somewhat close to restaurants, other activities, and not more than $250/night.

My wife likes some of the activities at Purgatory, but it's hard to tell which are the good units at the resort.

Thanks for your help.

Can't say for a hotel because we usually tent it on Imogene... But I will probably be up in that area early to mid august myself.

The Silver Pick Lodge is a great place to stay. It is close to Durango Mountain resort and only about 20 minutes from Downtown Durango. There is also the Glacier Club also known as Tamarron Resort. Durango Mountain resort has had a recent face lift and is very nice to stay. All places have pools. Really good resturants at all three. All three put you both close to Durango and also Silverton. I am a local and spend tons of time at these places if you need any more info on resturants or trails let me know. You will have a blast. It will be gorgeous that time of year.

The Silver Pick has a website if you just google silverpicklodge. You can get individual rooms or you can get a condo. I stayed up there a few months ago. I would recomend the restuarant at Silver Pick, If you are looking for something not so flashy, the restuarants in Durango are amazing. A really good place is Steamworks. The train ride is pretty nice if you have never done that. Takes all day though. Silverton is very fun. Great mountain area. There are some good trails in the area if you are planning on taking that route.

Thanks for the suggestions, 07jk. My wife found a 2 bedroom condo right in the resort area that looks like it will do us well.

How crowded are the trails in early/mid August? Looks like we're planning on getting there Saturday August 8th, and staying until the following Saturday.

Also, what trails do you recommend for a semi-newbie? This is my first Jeep, and by August I'll probably have a couple trail rides under my belt. But I'm looking for something really scenic (I know, they all are!), not too hard, and that might have some hiking trails we could detour onto.

Thanks again for the help!
