Default Where to camp

I have never been to moab and I am very excited to try it for the first time. what is the protocal for securing a camp site so I have a place to pop a tent?
I'm not familiar with the area or the event what so ever so I don't know if we could just show up and be alright.
If we have to call ahead, who do I get ahold of (eg. BLM)? does anyone have phone numbers?

As far as BLM is concerned I have no knowledge, I do know it is first come first serve. Papabear

I'm wondering if we can park overnight at the BFE site?

BLM is Bureau of Land Management and you can't exactly call to reserve a space. It's first come first serve anywhere on BLM land. I have been several times and camped on BLM land and it's really not bad, but for Jeep Safari, it will be packed and you may not be able to find a space. Hope that helps.

So we'll probably park in a motel parking lot unless I find a spot. We're not going to set up camp or need a fire or anything... just park. I'll keep looking.

You can reserve a camp site at private campgrounds in the area. I'm staying at Slick Rock campground, and I know there's a KOA and others to choose from.

Jeep Safari 2009 Schedule

Monday - Private event
Tuesday - Open for day wheeling
Wednesday - Sponsored run for anyone who owns a Jeep JK. Sign up at www.project-jk.com/jkjam
Thursday - Day and Night wheeling
Friday - Day and Night wheeling
Saturday - Day and Night wheeling plus 2nd Annual AreaBFE Prize Giveaway.

We'll be selling T-shirts again this year at the gate. $10 for short sleeve and $15 for long sleeve.

Camping will be allowed in the lower parking lot all week this year. Campers may come and go but will not be able to wheel during Monday's event, and wheeling on Wednesday is limited to Jeep JK's.

We will be asking for donations once again and we can use all of the help we can get this year. These are donations and not mandatory to enter.

We look forward to seeing you out there and thanks in advance for all of your support.
I just found their website and they say camping is okay in the parking lot all week long. Only certain times will the general public be allowed to drive the tails. Monday is booked for an event and us JKers got Wednesday, the rest looks open. I would definitely make a donation.

I feel better now, knowing I'll be able to park without being where I'm not supposed to be.

Are there porta-pottys there?

Is that not a valid question?

I only ask because they have pics of a coffee stand at BFE, figured they might have outhouses too. I know others have been there before and I figured I'd ask.
