Default Garmin GPS's

The wife wanted a GPS to use in her JK. Picked up a Garmin Nuvi 350 for her. Works great!
My question. Has anyone downloaded any software/driver, or map updates from the Garmin site for thier GPS and installed.
I know there are quite a few updates available. Iv'e downloaded the update program from the site to my home computer, but have not downloaded any updates yet.

When I first got my Nuvi 360 (Sept 2006), the firmware was lousy. Half the time, the map software would act like the GPS receiver wasn't there. Turn it off and on again and it would come back--maybe. I updated the firmware once a week for about four months then Garmin finally got it right. It now works perfectly and I haven't updated the firmware since. I've never updated the maps.

Thanks for the link.

I found this nifty website which will convert the downloaded vehicles into a picture you can edit with Photoshop then convert the vehicles back into files for the GPS. Custom paint jobs anyone?

I just tried this. Here's the equipment and software I used:

1) Garmin MapSource v6.12.4
2) Garmin Topo 2008 v4.00
3) Garmin Nuvi 360 v3.20
4) SanDisk 4.0GB SDHC Flash Memory Card

Waypoints and track logs can ONLY be downloaded to the Nuvi's internal flash memory. Maps can be downloaded to the either the internal flash memory or the external flash memory card. I only tried using the external flash memory card for the maps.

1) To get the Topo maps to show up, you must go into Settings -> Map -> Map Info and disable the City Navigator maps and enable the Topo 2008 maps.

2) Waypoints will be displayed on the map.

3) Track logs will NOT be displayed.

4) The trail and road data in Topo 2008 is sadly out of date. Closed roads and trails are in the data. Open roads and trails are missing. The image below shows an example for the Crystal Mountain area near Masonville, Colorado.

If the Nuvi would display my track logs (shown on the above map), the Nuvi and MapSource Topo 2008 maps would be MUCH, MUCH more useful off-road.

If you have MapSource Topo 2008 and want to see this area for yourself in the software, an approximate coordinate to the center of this area is N40 31.941 W105 25.273.
