Default I got $500 I need to spend.

Alright, before anybody rips for posting this generic, probably overly asked question, I'll apologize. But after reading a
couple hundred posts in a few dozen different threads, I'm still in the same spot, at square one. I originally thought of getting the
Lowrance Elite Baja, but the more I read, there are a lot more competitors out there in this price range. On top of the dedicated
units, more and more are talking iPads and tablets. Argh! So, you guys tell me. What let tell you what I'm doing with it, what it's main
uses will be and what primary features I would like to see, and hopefully you guys with more research under you belts can direct me to
the best one for my money.
Living in Michigan, I/we travel all over the state looking for the old logging roads, the fire roads through the forests, the off road parks,
and the state parks. I'm really looking for something that can track or "breadcrumb" our travels. That is primary. We're always on these
trails and the cheesy free software we use fails us. Topo would be a serious bonus, or at least the option to buy/install it later. A big screen
is important as it'll be mounted to the dash, (the little handhelds are out). Satellite imagery would be cool, but not a requirement. And other stuff like weather or SPOT would be nice, but I have
other electronics that do that. An external antenna would be okay if I can get precise mapping and location, (and maybe needed in the deep
woods of the U.P.
Alright, tell me what to buy. I'd like to hit the $300-500 mark, but can spend more if needed for other soft/hardware later.

Thanks all.
