Camping in Indiana
We camp several times a year around Brookville lake. This year we hit Quakertown SRA for the first time. It was quite nice and I agree IN DNR has a great campground system!
There was also a shooting range almost within walking distance of the campground that I never knew about. Manned by a very good range officer who waves the daily charge for campers.

My favorite campground in the state is Whitewater

We are getting relocated to the Knoxville TN area soon (I start work in Kingston next Monday). I will not be making anymore camping trips in IN this year, sadly.
I will be checking out the State Park system in Tennessee in the very near future though. I did go to Frozen Head Park in Wartburg TN 3 weeks ago. We were there for 5 nights and had a pretty good time. The trails were awesome, the campground was 100% shaded (in town it was 95 degrees and in the park it was 82 degrees), the showers were cleaned daily at 10am and stayed clean throughout the day. The only downside, if you want to call it a downside, was there was no electricity.
I grew up 30-40 minutes from Turkey Run, but have never camped there. We used to take canoe trips down the river there a lot growing up. There are two bridges there that are side by side, one concrete and the other a covered bridge. We used to go swimming there a lot during my teens and would jump off the bridges into the river. That place is so much fun.
INDIANA--I am lucky to have 255 acre of private alnd to camp on in SE Indiana, but Brookville Lake is nice, Versailles State Park is nice, both down SE. Racoon Lake SRA on the west side of the state is good, has a beach and boat-able lake. The dunes are cool but it has been years since i went up there.
Florida- I used to hit a bunch of campgrounds by lauderdale and myers. Camped primitive for free 60 miles south of alligator alley off an airboat launch ramp for 2 weeks a few winters ago. Ranger came out to check on us once and was cool. Were actually others camping that far down in the National Park.
Virginia--Just wheeled and camped for 3 days in the George Washington National Forest. All free, but primitive. Camping spots spread throughout the trails. Awesome views and lots of trails. There were improved campgrounds, but we did an expedition type weekend and covered 100 miles over a couple mountains.
I am interested to do some camping this fall if anyone wants to work something out.
I have not been camping in Indiana yet but will be camping at the Badlands campground the weekend of 21 Aug. I'll let you know how that goes but I like the idea of driving to the badlands from Indy with a fully assembled Jeep and being able to drop the top and doors at the campsite. Hope you find a good spot.
I like to go to France Park it is in Logansport just east of Monticello real nice they have a lot of trails to walk or bike they offer diving and swimming in a big quarry with 6+ ft lon sturgen fish. There is another lake for fishing and they allow small boats. There is a lot more jst look them up it is a state park.
Paynetown SRA on lake monroe is really nice, and only $13 a night for tent camping. It gets kind of crowded in summer, but early spring and late fall are really pretty.
In the hoosier national forest there are some hike / backpack in sites that are free.
Racoon lake is decent too.
If you venture south to KY, check out red river gorge

I am now moving to East Tennessee. We have bought a place on top of the Cumberland Platue(sp?). It backs up to 80K acres of wildlife refuge. We are very stoked.
Now I will have to find out of the way campsites there!
