Just got my Safety Recall J30 last week
This week got a recall notice from Chrysler that my 2008 Jeep Wrangler is a part of the safety recall. Evediently there is a problem with automatic transmision fluid overheating and catching fire. So called the local dealer to setup an appointment for them to fix problem and took them about 30 minutes to fix. All they did was reflash the computer so that when the temperature of the transmission fluid gets to hot it now gives you a warning on the instrument cluster "Hot Oil" or something. The recommendation when this happens is to pull over park the vehicle and let vehicle idle till warning light goes off... To me this doesn't sound like a fix, but a way to stop the problem before it gets out of hand. May be something with other 2008 Jeep Wrangler automatic owners to watch for and keep an eye on or check if their vehicle is a part of the recall.
Oh another this for those that have the Superchip Programmers when you change it back to stock it does not change everything back. I modified TPMS to turn off and dealer asked me how I was able to program the TPMS sensor off. Before going to the dealer I did what Superchip said to return vehicle back to stock only because they said they were going to reflash the computer and didn't want any issues, but they were nice enough to bring this to my attention that it looks like someone modified the computer somehow.

You know I have had the mystery "bing" before when wheeling in the snow... Some say it was the warning for the high temp in the trany. Ever since i had this happen it feels like my jeep has run funny, even after a fluid change.
When I had my fluid changed, they saw a small leak around form of the connections.
I attribute this all to a hot transmission....
Long story to say, that I agree, not a solution, just a stop gap for a real problem.
side note, I did get a recall notice for a tow bar or somthing... I have no tow bar?

I did the hot oil recall, but when I go to superchip it, the hotoil flashes and dings like crazy.
I'm updating the Superchip now. Hopefully that will fix it.
I know when I see mine back to stock, I made sure to reset the tire size as well. I don't have TPMS, but sounds like it is a separate option just like Tire size.

I have an 09 and I got the notice also. I am quite upset about the whole "hide the problem" not "fix the problem". I think this is sketchy and not professional at all. It's as if they are trying to dodge a recall by simply wasting our time. I am going to schedule a time to go in, but I can't say that this is a very good welcome to the wrangler world for me.
I also have a tow bar, but didn't receive the letter about the recall on it. They had better address this on their own, or else I will start losing faith in chrysler all together.
