I would be more than happy to help out! It's mostly about the tire pressure and speed. I spend most of my time in 2wd unless I am hill climbing!

Couple of things to pay attention to:

Directional traffic - make sure you are going the correct way.

Peaks at hills - You want enough speed to get up the hill but not fly off the top. I have seen many people get hurt by driving too fast over the top of a hill.

PSI - start at 15psi and drop as needed. It really depends on your tire size. 33-1250's I drop to 12 in the front and sometimes 10 in the rear, but you will need to be careful not to pop the bead. I have done this before in my F-150 in the middle of the dunes. Luckily my buddy had onboard air on his jeep and we were able to air it back up!

If you plan on going make sure you get your campsite reserved ahead of time. It fills up fast. Silver hills is one of the quieter ones. More family oriented with a heated pool and clean restrooms.

If anyone has any questions PM me and maybe I will be able to help you out!

cgar: sign me up for sand 101 -thanks for the tips. I'm not sure if we are going to camp up there or not this year. We have stayed at Jelly Stone a few times which is a pretty nice campground. I am free most weekends so still looking for a hard set weekend.

Here are some weekends that I already have plans for so these would not work for me:

First weekend in May, motorcycle trip up to the West Branch area to hang out/ride for the weekend with some friends.

May 18th Blessing of the bikes in Baldwin - this is a fun time but I would give it up I had to so I could meet up for some Jeep fun.

July 18-20: Muskegon Bike Time event...I don't "have" to go all 3 days so that Sunday may be an option

I think these are the biggest things I can think of for this summer, If my wife and I go camping or out of town on vacation it would be between July and august most likely. The hills are not that far away from us I am even open to meeting up with even one other person just to get out there and learn some things.

I'm up there from the 13th to the 17th I might be able to extend my reservastions. If people can swing a two day trip I heard there is a good trail ride up by Manistee.

Yea, Maybe it's time to lock down a date. Would a Saturday or Sunday be better?
This will be more fun if everyone can make it. I can do July 12th,13th 19th or
the 20th. Saturday or Sunday doesn't matter to me.
Looks like Camp Jeep might be on the 24th - 26th and the July 4th weekend is crazy busy.

Should we stick with the 19th or try something else? Do we need
a poll ? Not sure how to do one.

A Sunday would be fine for me but I'm maybe an hour away at the most. If we did a Sunday my wife could come also which would be cool, she manages a horse farm and has to be there Saturday mornings so she misses out on a lot of weekend activities I get myself into. Not sure if there is any other advantage such as being less busy or not...probably during the week is the least busy time for the dunes.

I'm not good with my own schedule let alone trying figure out what works for all of us Maybe a poll would help narrow down a date/day.

Started new thread with poll to help find a date that works best for everyone.

So vote for a date and pass the word on to other JK owners!

After reading the meet time as 1pm saturdays might be more doable for my wife she is home as early as 11:00 some saturdays I will ask her about her show schedule and place our vote.
