I need an engine for my JK. Does anyone know where i can get one of those $300 deals that i've heard about? I'm in Michigan, but willing to drive to pick it up. Or if someone can recommend a less expensive way to repair a blown rod, that would be very helpful. Maybe there is a local shop that someone knows of that is jeep friendly?

I know that $$$ is always the deciding factor, but is a hemi or similar upgrade an option???
Or surf the net for someone who rolled theirs, and see if you can latch onto the motor...
And there is always someone out there doing the Hemi upgrade..

Not good news from the sound of this post... There are several companies that have Hemi swap kits on the market, and they all have install facilities. Just do a search on the various forums in the vendor areas, and send out some pm's asking what they might have laying around; this is probably your best bet for a deal.

 

You could check with Venom Motorsports over here in Grand Rapids. They are the off-road/performance division of one of GR's Jeep dealerships (VanAndel Flikkema). I've heard that they do a lot of Hemi swaps and have quite a few used 3.8's on hand.

They don't seem to have their own web site, but I'm sure you could contact them through the dealership:

I'm not affiliated with them at all and haven't used them for anything myself... but their shop is just a few miles from where I work and everything I've heard about them has been quite positive.
