Overlanding tendencies
Well, we sold the TJ and will be moving more toward overlanding the JKU. My wife and I both love camping. We used to backpack, but her knees now keep her from carrying the weight. I enjoy some rock crawling, but we both like exploring the trails and hitting the dunes more. We really enjoy exploring areas we've not seen before. I've been looking more and more at overlanding and eyeing some specific trips. We also like to travel. So we're taking the leap. The TJ was our toy since the JKU is my DD.
The JKU is already lifted 2.5" and riding on 33's, has custom bumpers and Smittybilt rock rails. I stopped building it when we decided to get the TJ. So the build is now being continued with a different purpose. We have and will continue to wheel the JKU, just not as rough as I did the TJ. I've talked to my buddy at The Jeep Armory about building my roof rack with a spare tire mount and adding a winch plate to the front bumper. I don't currently carry a spare for my daily driving. We'll be adding a rooftop tent, annex, awning etc. We currently do our camping in a small pop-up, or rent a small cabin sometimes. But, as I said, we used to backpack. So we're looking forward to doing some dispersed camping again.
Our current goal is to have it ready for a trip to the Outer Banks, NC next spring/summer. Who else has been overlanding from the Great Lakes area?
